As every year in June, the Parcours Saint-Germain 2018 fills the neighborhood with a beautiful artistic wave. Indeed, during 10 days, places such as cafes, shops, hotels, receive contemporary art and welcome visitors fond of the course, art, or neighborhood! And this year, for the first time, Hotel des 2 Continents participates in Parcours Saint-Germain 2018!
Parcours Saint-Germain 2018 is an event that our team appreciates a lot because it allows access to contemporary art as well as sometimes to unsuspected places. It is also a challenge for artists, to have to understand the place, deal with the space while respecting it. A nice exchange in short.
When we decided to participate in the event, we thought that the courtyard of the hotel would be perfect for exhibiting works, but against all odds, the artist decided to invest the ground floor as a whole . Luke James, a young Burgundian artist, knew how to tame the rather unusual space of Hôtel des 2 Continents while maintaining the classic side.
Upon entering the hall, we feel the presence of the artist. Above reception desk, a lead mask, and near the elevator, a discreet canvas. In the sitting area, Luke James’s works are playing with the hotel window to catch the passer-by. On the occasion of the vernissage last night, an object from the hotel, the coffee table, was diverted. Indeed, the glass covering the wooden table was placed on one of the pillars of the work, thus offering a delicate improvisation.
On the way to the hotel courtyard, is hidden a small work of lead, fine and delicious: “Spring Cherry tree “. Two large canvases of Burgundian roofs tease the walls of the hotel, already well busy. Finally the courtyard reveals the secret, “the cage with birds” named by Luke James.
